Monday, November 24th

What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Do you have any traditions? Go in to detail about your plans for the 5 day weekend.

For Thanksgiving, I'm going to my grandparents to see them, along with my uncle and a few of our family friends. I'll be helping my grandma finish cooking because I'm the only other one in the family that knows how too. My family doesn't really have any traditions, we're a pretty simple family. Over the five day weekend, I plan on going to work on Wednesday, then go to see Slipknot and KoRn in concert with my friend Zach. On Black Friday I'll be going shopping with my friend Rhyan; we're moving in together in April and buying things for our new house. Saturday and Sunday I plan on working at my jobs and spending time with some friends.

Go out and look up a what all goes on a resume website. What can you find? Include an example image if possible.

It is advantageous for you to know how to design Web pages, or to have your own. An excellent way to do this while landing a job in the process, is by combining your job search with the creation of your own Web resume. Building your own resume website can help you stand out from the rest of your potential competition, especially in an economy like this. It shows your employers that you care about your reputation and that you're also good with technology, which is a highly desired trait. Keep it simple, make sure you post multiple ways to get into contact with you, make a good, professional looking design and don't overdo it.

Define 'User Experience'. What does it mean and how does it relate to web design?

User experience to me, means the experience a person has when going through websites or pages on the internet, or working with certain computer programs. For example, before I began taking this class, had had very little to no user experience, but now as I'm more than halfway through the semester, I feel I've got quite a lot more user experience. I can successfully code a well-working website, I can also work Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Notepad++

Consider the quote below. What exactly do you think it means and how does it relate to Web Design?

I think it means that something and look really nice, and be appealing to the eye, but if none of it works, the design in inherently flawed. A design is only as good as its structure is. It's comparative to tattooing; I can draw a fantastic tattoo, and it can be beautiful, but if it doesn't work with the other tattoos that are next to it, or doesn't fit in the space you've got, then you wasted all of your time for nothing and you've just got to start over.

Wednesday. November 12th

Reflect on your learning this semester so far in this class. Think about the first day you walked in to this room until right now. What have you learned about Web Design? What have you learned beyond Web Design? Explain yourself.

When I first started in this class, I wasn't really looking forward to it. I've never been a big fan of technology courses and I was only taking it because I need the credit to graduate. Throughout the semester, I've actually begun to enjoy this class and have fun with the things we're learning. I know that being able to code a webpage and create a functional webpage could really come handy in the future if I decided to open my own shop or start co-owning the shop I'm already in.

Tell me about your weekend. Give me details and photos!

This weekend I worked at my shop. We had a $30 tattoo special so we were busy the entire day. Later that evening my boss and I left early to get everything set up for a party we were having. We had a live band playing, a large bonfire and it ended up being a lot of fun. I left around 2 or 3 in the morning, and went home to fall asleep. The next day, I worked with my horses and then went to see Ouija with my boyfriend.

What kind of background do you have with Photoshop? Have you used it before? What other types of design and editing software have you used before? Explain.

I don't have any background with Photoshop, I've never used it and never had a reason too. The only type of editing software I've ever used is a photo editor on my phone, and the editor on Instagram to change the color or something on a photo I didn't like.

The perfect curriculum to prepare me for the future I want would be art classes. I've already started the beginning steps into my career by gaining an apprenticeship at a Tattoo and Piercing shop in Missouri. I'm there five days a week, and I've currently been there a year now. Once I complete my apprenticeships, I'll be granted my licenses and I will have a full career. The entirety of my life will be based upon art; how colors work together, how the blend them to create the look of texture, etc. Classes on advanced drawing techniques, color theory, different techniques when drawing or painting to create what you're wanting; these would all be useful classes for my future. They would be very different from the classes I've got now. I wouldn't be studying rocks or the American Government systems.

Tuesday, October 7th

The following article was in the September issue of The Tiger Print. Read the article (even if you already have) and respond to it below. What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? Consider all perspectives of the article while you respond.

I completely agree with what Riley said in the article. We should be respected by our teachers, no matter if we're wearing a slightly low-cut shirt, or high-waisted shorts. If it's something I would be seen around my parents in, I should be able to wear it at school and not hear a teacher make a rude comment. If me wearing a top that shows my shoulders creates a "distracting learning environment" for male students, then like Riley said, maybe the male population in our school needs to learn to control themselves a little better. High school isn't an easy time for anyone, and it's made difficult for women to feel slightly comfortable with themselves. If they've found something that isn't inappropriate and makes them feel better about themselves, they don't need to be called out for it. Getting rid of the school dress code isn't going to cause girls to start showing up in anything less than we all already wear.

Tell me about your weekend! If you don't have anything fun to share, tell me about the city you live in. What do you love about Kansas City? Do you have a favorite place in the city? Favorite team? :) Favorite event? Explain.

This weekend I helped my shop decide our plan for the Halloween party we have every year, and our ideas for the $30 tattoo day on Halloween. I also got the gratitude of being able to design my boyfriends and his mothers tattoos. Last night my boyfriend also took me to see the movie Annabelle, we love horror movies and it was really fun.

Tell me about your Homecoming weekend! If you didn't participate in the Homecoming festivities, what did you do? Share pics!

This weekend, I didn't actually go to Homecoming. Instead, I dyed my hair red, watched American Horror Story with my boyfriend and worked. Seeing all of my friends' Homecoming pictures made me wish I had gone, but I had a lot of fun at work that night, my boss was is a very good mood, and I made a lot of money, since it was a busy Saturday. I was excited to dye my hair red because it's my favorite hair color and I was getting very tired of the black hair I had, but my hair still isn't as bright as I want it to be eventually. Sunday night, I went to dinner with my boyfriends family, and then we went back to his house and watched the last two episodes of American Horror Story's first season.

Below is one of my favorite quotes that I found on Pinterest. Think read and think about what this says and then blog about it. What does this quote mean to you? Elaborate! Feel free to give an example of tell a story.

To me, this quote stands out quite a lot. I work at a job where, if I'm not cleaning, piercing or working with clients, there's nothing to do but sit around. My boss and mentors have always said that "bored" is a word that should never leave your mouth. "If you're bored, there are a million different things you can do, or I can make a mess and give you something to do." It used to annoy me so much, and I was constantly being cautious to never say bored around them, but after a couple of months, boredom wasn't something I focused on, or allowed myself to feel. There are so many things you could do to keep yourself occupied, that boredom can't be an issue.

Tuesday, September 9th

How do you express your creativity? Explain.

Creativity to me, is the way a person expresses themselves, or chooses to do everyday things in life. I express my creativity through a lot of my drawings. I also express my creativity in the tattoos I have, the piercings I have and the basic way of how I look, such as my hair colors.

What did you do this weekend? Share pictures if you have them

This weekend I worked all day Friday night and all day Saturday night. Yesterday, I got a third job at the Applebee's in Grandview. I also went to the Black Stone Cherry and Theory of a Deadman concert at the Midland, with my friend Zach. We were there until 11 and we both had a lot of fun.

Wednesday, September 3rd

Tell me about what you have learned in this class so far. Have you learned a lot? Do you want to learn more? What do you want to be able to do by the end of the semester?

So far, I've learned a lot about how to code html documents and how the basics of a webpage works. This class has made me feel a lot more capable on the computer and I know a lot more about how everything works together to create the pages we normally see, such as Google or blogger. Working on pages like Notepad ++, and being able to successfully link pages back and forth, or change the color and font, and feeling comfortable on my ability to do it, has made me feel a lot smarter with technology than I did before I entered the class. I'd like to learn more and feel comfortable with the more difficult parts of coding webpages, such as how to size pictures, or add working videos, audio, etc.

Tell me all about your Labor Day weekend. What did you do? Include photos!

My Labor Day weekend, I worked all day Saturday and had dinner with my boyfriends family. Surprisingly, it went really well. On Sunday, my friends Zach, James, my boyfriend Cameron and I all got up early and drove to the Omaha Zoo. It was one of the better weekends I've had in a long time, and we all really enjoyed the zoo. We spent about four or five hours there and then we drove back home.

Friday, August 29th

Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

I completely agree with the blog post. The world does not owe you anything, and neither does anyone in it. Your fun and future aren't going to be made for you, if you want something, you need to get up and do it yourself; it wont be done for you. The world isn't easy and if you refuse to do anything for yourself, then get used to having a life that goes nowhere.

Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted it, I should be able to use it."

I believe that any picture posted on the internet is available for public use. Anything posted onto the internet is spread, posted and can be found by anyone. If you don't want the picture to be used, you simply shouldn't post it. Copyright on an image can only stop so much use of the image. Pictures posted on Facebook can have the privacy setting changed, which keeps people from using anything you've posted.  The image I posted is an original piece posted by Jeff Gogue that can be found on his website.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your life here at BVHS. What activities or clubs are you involved in? What year are you in school? What is your favorite class and/or teacher so far this year? What are you looking forward to this school year? Include some original photos from your phone if you can.

I'm not involved in any clubs or activities at Blue Valley, I work two jobs so I don't have the time outside of school. I'm an apprenticed tattoo artist and body piercer, which I'll be going into after I graduate. I love going to concerts with my friends and my boyfriend. I'm a senior this year. My favorite class is Government with Barikmo, he's a fun teacher and makes the class really simple. I'm not looking forward to much for this school year apart from graduation and the privileges that seniors get.

Monday, August 25th

What do you know about Web Design right now? What did you know about Web Design before you walked in to this class? Tell me as much as you can about how web pages work. Try to use an example if possible.

Before I started taking web design, I didn't really have an idea of what Web Design was going to be like, I just knew it was a technology/business credit and that I would be working with computers. I had no idea how to use HTML Web coding, or what made up a web page document. Right now in this class, I've learned how to make a blog, and how to use HTML coding to create links, headings, body sections and everything else that makes the basic structures of a web page. Web pages work by using HTML coding, they give you the ability to create a heading in any size font you'd like, they allow you to place images, and create links to those images or other pages on the internet. They also give you the ability to change font style or color, and I believe all of those are very important things to know in the future since out world is quickly turning all technology based.
